How can I study in college and still have fun at the same time?

  • I am a senior in high school and next year I am going to college to become a nurse. I know that being a nurse takes a lot of time and studying, but in high school I didn't get to have a lot of fun. So in college I want to be able to have fun, but not get behind in my studies. What are your suggestions?
(note I am use to get A's and a bit of a perfectionist)

  • keep ahead of things by setting aside set time for study to ensure that you get it done. So rather than studying all weekend, study an hour or two after class during the week. Then your weekend should be free for fun!

  • Balance is the key... there is no secret code. If you maintain balance you will be successful, if you do not you will not. Keep the drugs (including alcohol) and partying to a minimum, use them as a reward not an escape. Always remember, that there is someone else that is working harder to get the job you would rather have.

  • See, first of all I want to tell you that fun is a small word, but with the wider meanings. Different people have different meaning of FUN. Well, for a girl like you, I don't understand why a fun loving girl want to join nursing. Well, to go with you, if you mean fun as a partner of opposite sex, join nursing and search a partner of your choice. If your meaning of fun enjoying or parting with friends, search for a group. If want to enjoy with couples join a group with 3 boys and 2 girls.

However, if you are going for a nursing course, you will not be able to give time to fun of your life. But then too, if you wish to enjoy, you have to give some other time for your studies i.e. your sleeping time, and that in turn will injure you health. As in the profession, there is 9 to 10 hours job along with 5-6 hours of study, so you have to decide what to do.

It's all up to you.... Well, I would suggest you to go the the course like Diploma in Event Management or Mass Media and Communication courses. So you will be able to express yourself much more than in your currently thought profession.

Make your hobbie - your carrer and see the difference in life.

Wish to ask something more contact me via e-mail, but next time when you contact me let me know your city, so that I can suggest you with some good institutes of your time, or else it all upto you....

Happy carrer and May GOD bless you.....

    Take care

  • I LOVED COLLEGE! I partied, experimented, broke the law, you name it, and I still came out with a 3.0! My advice, if you are living with someone, especially in a dorm room, study in the library. Dorms have so much distraction, and if you are living in an apartment you have lots of things to distract you (example laundry, dishes, tv, music, whatever). I spent so much time in the library, and as soon as I was out I was with my friends. Also, if you party on a school night, give yourself a curfew if you have a morning class, and have the will power to follow it. Having fun is just as important as the good grades!!

  • its called time management. create times for both

  • You obviously haven't been to college yet if you're asking how to find time for both work and play. There is a LOT of free time in college. Without parents watching your cerfew there's a LOT more freedom too. It isn't class 8am-3pm like high school, it's like one day you'll have an hour of class, the next day you'll have like 3 hours, and so on, it's pretty random. Unless you have a part-time job or play sports on top of school, you'll find too time for hobbies, clubs, parties, and other activities.

My best suggestion is NEVER have a class before 10am, especially if you live in the dorms because you won't be able to fit sleep and study all in if you have early morning classes.

Drop the perfectionist attitude. Especially your first quarter or semester, you WILL NOT get straight A's unless you lock yourself in the library. Transitioning from having mom and dad around to living by yourself takes a lot of work in yourself and in a lot of ways is more important than your GPA. College is more about growing up than making good grades. And even if you want to go to post-graduate school, your first year GPA doesn't really matter. And if you don't want to go to post-grad school, your GPA doesn't matter AT ALL as long as you got at least a 2.0

Live it up, work hard, play harder, and find out how to be an independent adult. College is a blast.

  • Good luck because nursing requires a lot of studying. And you'll probably start doing volunteer work to help build your resume.

But that's about a year into college. My suggestion is work out a good class schedule early next spring (or whenever they let you register for classes) and go from there. The first year will be fairly easy in college. So have fun. But after that, you'll probably want to focus more on school. At my college, you have to "apply" to the nursing program and be accepted. That means you need good grades.

Regardless, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun in college. Everyone does. After your first few weeks, you'll get the hang of things and figure out how to manage your schedule.
